Tour Plan

  • Stop 1: Mogno, Church by Mario Botta; a symbol of revival and hope

Just beyond Fusio lies the hauntingly beautiful hamlet of Mogno, a place of both tragedy and triumph. Abandoned over time due to natural calamities, Mogno's fate seemed sealed until architect Mario Botta breathed new life into its shattered church in 1986. Rising from the ruins, his masterpiece now graces the landscape as one of Ticino's most iconic and discussed architectural wonders.

  • Stop 2: Fusio, a different destiny

Perched at an impressive altitude of 1280 meters, Fusio stands as the crown jewel of Valle Lavizzara. With roots tracing back to at least 1286, Fusio's history is steeped in mystery, hinting at the passage of the resilient Walser people who may have left their mark during their migration from Valais to Tyrol.

  • Stop 3: Lunch at Grotto Pozzasc, eating by the river

In the Peccia Valley lies the captivating Grotto Pozzasc. Once a bustling water mill, its rich history is lovingly preserved through a skillful 1990s restoration. Step inside and be transported through time, as each room reveals a piece of its storied past.

  • Stop 4 and 5: Visit to the Scholl of Sculpture and the International Sculpture Centre (CIS)

The School of Sculpture and the International Sculpture Centre (CIS) stand as a beacon of creativity in Switzerland and Europe. Since its establishment in May 2021, the CIS has been a hub for sculptors worldwide, offering scholarships and state-of-the-art facilities to create awe-inspiring works, often using locally sourced materials like the renowned Cristallina marble.
